Negus Adeyemi Bio Pic

Negus Adeyemi is an African-Caribbean-American writer, born in the borough of Brooklyn by parents from the island of Barbados. While moving to New Jersey at a young age and living there until he was a young man, he has returned back to Brooklyn as an adult. With the fortune of his father being a calypsonian and folk musician, he literally grew up around storytelling and performing. 

It wasn’t until he graduated from NJIT (New Jersey Institute of Technology) in 2008 with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering that he himself began to seriously write poetry. Passionate about his culture and heritage from the time of his conception, Negus displays these and many more emotions in every one of his poems. Exuberant with these emotions, he is very ardent in writing poems about the cultivation and edification of his people. Utilizing a plethora of ways and topics for people to relate and connect with his messages.

As a poet, his goal is to express himself in a way that enlightens, heals, uplifts, guides and augments the human spirit.  Negus is more than just a writer; he is also an author, spoken word artist, father, electrical engineer and teaching artist.  Through his poetic journey thus far he has performed his poetry at many different venues, including various universities, colleges, correctional facilities, churches, libraries, bookstores, festivals, fundraisers and multiple other events throughout the world.  He has created his own poetic greeting card line along with writing and self-publishing six poetry books, which include L.O.V.E.(Letting Out Vast Emotions) which was released [June 2009], Mind of A Mature Lion [January 2011], Soularadiance [April 2014], Gemineye [May 2017], Crownshockra [April 2021] and Heirbender [October 2021].
